Effective 12 January 2009 onwards, all travelers under Visa-Waiver Program, planning to travel to the United States for temporary business or pleasure must submit an application for travel authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to boarding a US bound plane or cruise ship.
